Sources & open data
Lori Province is built on open data. The listings are a snapshot of OpenStreetMap, enriched with Wikidata and short Wikipedia summaries; the editorial pages — highlights, itineraries, hikes, practical tips — are written for this guide and link to their sources.

How distances and heights are measured
- Altitude of every place is sampled from the Copernicus 90 m terrain model (via Open-Meteo). Mapped summit heights from OpenStreetMap are kept for peaks.
- Rivers come from OpenStreetMap; each river is sampled every few hundred metres with its own altitude, so a page can say a place is “771 m above the Debed”, not just how far away the water is.
- Road distance and drive time from Vanadzor, Alaverdi, Stepanavan, Yerevan and Tbilisi are routed on the road network with OSRM. Places more than a few hundred metres from any mapped road are flagged.
- Itinerary legs and hikes are routed along roads and footpaths, with climbs and elevation profiles from the same terrain model. Walking times use Naismith's rule.
- Climate averages are ten years of ERA5-Land reanalysis from the Open-Meteo archive.
These are measured, not hand-written, so they can be wrong where the map is wrong. Run npm run dev and open /tools/enrich/ to recompute them.
Licences
- OpenStreetMap contributors — ODbL 1.0. Used for locations, names, contacts, opening hours, all POIs.
- Wikidata — CC0. Used for descriptions, image references, Wikipedia links.
- Wikipedia — CC BY-SA 4.0. Used for short summaries (trimmed), linked for full text.
- Wikimedia Commons — per-file (mostly CC BY-SA). Used for photos, hot-linked with a link to each file page.
If you republish the datasets, keep the OpenStreetMap attribution and the ODbL share-alike terms. Wikipedia text is CC BY-SA 4.0; each photo's author and licence are on its Commons page, linked under every image.
Fix a listing
Every place page links to its OpenStreetMap record. Editing it there fixes the source for everyone, and the next refresh of this guide (npm run data:fetch) picks it up.
