Spitak & the west

The 1988 earthquake had its epicentre near Spitak, and the town was rebuilt on a new site; the memorial on the hill above it is a quiet, important stop. Further west the Pambak valley rises towards Shirak through villages like Mets Parni and Lusaghbyur, with the Trchkan waterfall on the border and open ridges good for long day hikes.
